Frequently Asked Questions

ISSUE: How do I clear a Four Digit system error (ie. Error 3700)

message on the Front-Panel-Key Pad display?

SOLUTION:

1.Clearing a four-digit system error: To clear a four-digit system

error from the OfficeJet front panel display:

2.Stop the activity being performed.

3.Carefully unplug the OfficeJet power cord from the electrical

outlet that the OfficeJet is connected to.

4.Wait at least thirty seconds before plugging the OfficeJet power

cord back into the electrical outlet.

5.Make sure the Fax/Phone line connector and the Bi-directional

printer cable are well connected to the OfficeJet. Let the

OfficeJet complete it's initialization/start-up (this should take

less than forty-five seconds) the four-digit system error should

 now be cleared.

6.Press the "Reconnect" button on the computer screen to

establish communication between the OfficeJet and the

computer. The OfficeJet should now be ready for use.

If power cycling the OfficeJet doesn't clear the four-digit system error,

there may be a physical obstruction causing the system error

message. Such as system error 3407.

                To check for physical obstruction:

1.Disconnect the OfficeJet from the power source.

2.Open the front panel cover door to access the print mechanism

 area.

3.Verify that there is no paper caught inside the printer, or any

torn pieces of paper caught inside the paper path area. If paper

is caught inside the printer-paper path, remove the paper

slowly/carefully, so the paper doesn't tear inside the paper

path. To display step by step instructions on clearing a

paper/or document jam, refer to your HP OfficeJet Manager

Icon found on the computer screen - Follow this HELP path:

How Do I? - Maintaining the HP OfficeJet - Clearing a paper

 jam.

4.Verify that the black plastic ink cartridge cradle (the plastic

piece that holds the two ink cartridges in position inside the

printer) is all the way to the far right hand area. If not, try to

locate what may be blocking the ink cartridge cradle from

moving across the print area. The ink cartridge cradle should

move freely back and forth across the print area.

5.Close the cover door after checking for printer path

 obstructions.

6.Plug the OfficeJet power cord back into the electrical outlet.

Make sure the Fax/Phone line connector and the Bi-directional

printer cable are well connected to the OfficeJet. Let the

OfficeJet complete it's initialization/start-up (this should take

less than forty-five seconds). he four-digit system error should

 now be cleared.

7.Now press the "Reconnect" button on the computer screen to

establish communication between the OfficeJet and the

computer. The OfficeJet should now be ready for use.

                Troubleshooting other system errors:

1.Verify that the Fax/Phone line connector (this is the fax modem

box that connects into the back of the OfficeJet, and the phone

cord that goes to the telephone walljack) is securely plugged

into the back of the OfficeJet. System Errors of 1060 to 1070 or

1551 may indicate the Fax/Phone line connector should be

removed from the OfficeJet, and then reseated into the

Fax/Phone line connector slot on the back of the OfficeJet.

2.Carefully unplug the OfficeJet power cord from the electrical

outlet that the OfficeJet is connected to.

To remove the Fax/Phone line connector, use a plastic

card about the size of a credit card. Insert the plastic

card width side into the bottom edge of the Fax/Phone

line connector where it fits into the OfficeJet, insert the

card about an inch to one and one-half inches; with the

card inserted, pull the Fax/Phone line connector out and

      away from the OfficeJet.

3.Check to ensure all the gold colored pins are straight and there

is no debris in the OfficeJet-Fax/Phone line connector slot area.

4.Reseat the Fax/Phone line connector into the back of the

 OfficeJet.

5.Plug the OfficeJet power cord back into the electrical outlet.

Make sure the Fax/Phone line connector and the Bi-directional

printer cable are well connected to the OfficeJet. Let the

OfficeJet complete it's initialization/startup (this should take

less than forty-five seconds). The four-digit system error should

 now be cleared.

6.Press the "Reconnect" button on the computer screen to

establish communication between the OfficeJet and the

computer. The OfficeJet should now be ready for use.
