JETDIREC

The experience of most users who have installed JetDirects print servers

is to configure them for "indirect printing"

i.e. configure a shared printer on one of the computers, instruct the

Jewelry Shopkeeper printing to print to a printer port such as LPT3,

use the windows CAPTURE option to redirect the printing to the shared

printer. This way the Jewelry Shopkeeper print jobs will be fed into

the shared printer queue. Then the JetDirect unit would be configured

to print/service jobs that are in this shared queue.

Printing directly might possibly work. The JetDirect software can create a

special lpt port capture (e.g. lpt1, lpt2, lpt3) but note that within

the Jewelry Shopkeeper "Printer Redirection" screen you have to specify

a lpt2 (or lpt1 or lpt3) in LOWER CASE!  This is not guaranteed to work.

It's possible that you can have other Windows applications print directly

to the JetDirect even though Jewelry Shopkeeper prints indirectly.

=============================================================

If you notice a long printing delay your computer consultant/helper can

make these changes which Microsoft says speeds up printing under Windows 9x.

If these sections donþt already exist, add these AFTER the [386Enh] section

in the SYSTEM.INI

[Network]

PrintBufTime=5

[IFSMGR]

PrintBufTime=5

Note that if you have a network, you should make these changes to all

Windows 95/98 computers on the network. The number 5 above represents

approximately the number of seconds delay. Windows defaults to about 45.

It is not clear if reducing to 1 works well, you can try it out.
