Video demonstrating setting up a new tag layout

Tag printers need calibrating when you first set them up and periodically they need recalibrating.

Note: Don't attempt to print tags from Shopkeeper or adjust Shopkeeper tag layouts unless the printer is calibrated and remains in good order ( such as no error lights showing) at all times - when you turn it on and after you feed a tag.

When it's calibrated, the printer will feed precisely one tag for each press of the feed button several times in a row, and does not result in error lights.

If it fees more than one tag or there are error lights, then it is not calibrated.

Each printer model has it's own procedure for calibrating it. You may find the procedure in the printer manual or in a You Tube video.

Note that printers can often be configured in black-line mode or transparency mode to match the tag fabrication style.
I.e. some tags have black lines printed on the underside of the tag backing paper which the printer sensor can detect.

More commonly there are no black lines, and the printer sensor measures the transparency of the tag plus the backing paper to see where the gaps are.

If your printer is set to black-line mode, it cannot be calibrated for tags without black lines, and vice-versa.

You can customize your tag layout to what ever you like, whether that means few lines of information using large fonts or many lines of information with smaller fonts.

You can select any size of tag that your printer accepts

You can create multiple different tag layouts, which could be different layouts for the same physical tag, or for different tags.

However, tag printers often need recalibrating when you change the roll of tags, so changing tag rolls can be awkward.

If you need two or more physical tag shapes, you might prefer to have two printers, each with  different roll of tags loaded.
