Running the Y2KDAT Utility

If you have Version 8.2 or earlier, you need to run the Y2KDAT utility every time before you run any date-sensitive reports.

If you have Version 8.7, then you need only run this utility occasionally to fix any mis-typed dates where the dates are wrong – perhaps only every few days or weeks.

If you are running version 8.2 or 8.7 of Shop-Pro, then from the main menu, choose 9-Exit, then M-Miscellaneous, then U-Utilities and then highlight the Y2KDAT utility which should be at the end of the list since the utilities are sorted alphabetically. When it asks if you’ve made a backup, choose Yes (assuming that you’ve made a backup last night or today as you should always do.)

Then the utility will appear on the screen and will ask you to confirm you want to run the utility. The time needed to run the utility could be anywhere from less than one minute to half an hour depending on how much data you have and how slow your computer is.

As the utility is working it will flash various names of files on the screen. You needn’t mind these names, since that is just a progress indicator to let you know that the computer is working

If you are running the regular Shopkeeper, then from the Main Menu press the letter U for Utilities, then select and run the Y2KDAT utility as described in the above paragraph.

Manually Installing the Patches

The patch files should be inserted into a new subfolder called \COMPLINK.JS\Y2K

In addition two of those files, INIT.FXP and INIT.FOX should also be inserted into the existing data folder called

\COMPLINK.JS\DATA.JS

Furthermore two other files U_Y2KDAT.FXP and U_Y2KDAT.FOX should be copied into the existing folder \COMPLINK.JS

Version 7.5 doesn’t have the files ending in .FXP, so you shouldn’t have such files and you can ignore references to them.

Version 8.7 only needs the two files \COMPLINK.JS\U_Y2KDAT.FOX  and \COMPLINK.JS\PRO\U_Y2KDAT.FXP

If for some reason, these patch files cause some incompatibility, then you can erase the patch files to revert back to your previous state.
