Y2K PROBLEMS: YOUR COMPUTER'S INTERNAL CALENDER IS INCORRECT

                               and/or

"FATAL DATE ERROR" MESSAGE APPEARS WHEN STARTING SHOPKEEPER/SHOP-PRO

Many Computers have problems remembering the correct date after 12/31/1999.

Since the Jewelry Shopkeeper depends on your computer's internal clock to

receive the correct date and time you must make sure your computer is

set to the right date BEFORE starting the Shopkeeper/Pro:

This is not something Compulink can fix for you, but here are some tips you can follow yourself or with the help of a computer tech.

Windows 95/98/NT:

*) Double-click the clock at the bottom right corner of the Desktop  (where all the icons show). Make sure the calendar reflects the  correct date and time. (or use the Control Panel Date/Time icon)

Windows 3.1:

*) At the Desktop, go into the CONTROL PANEL and double-click the Date/Time icon. Check sure correct date and time reflect and/or change them as appropriate.

DOS:

*) At a DOS prompt (e.g. C:\.) , type: DATE and press <Enter>. If the date is incorrect type the date with a four digit year (e.g. 01-20-2000)

TO FIX THE PROBLEM:

A) If you have a network, your network tech can set it up so that each  workstation gets the correct time from the server.

B) Get a new computer or update the computer's BIOS or add a special Y2K upgrade board or special y2k software patch to fix your computer's internal calendar. (ask a computer tech about this - they're not expensive.)

C) Fix the date and time and leave the computer ON all the time.

D) Fix the date and time each time you boot your computer up (see above)

E) With the help of a computer tech, add the statement:

         DATE

To your computer's AUTOEXEC.BAT file. This will interrupt the startup sequence of your computer and prompt you to enter the correct date each time the computer starts up.

One way to do this is:

*) Open Shop-Pro. Choose File, Miscellaneous, Edit a file. type:

           C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT

*) Add a blank line at the top by pressing <Enter> On that line type:

           DATE

*) Press CTRL-W  to save the changes.

*) Exit Shop-Pro and re-start your computer.
