Version 8.2 and Older VersionsVersion 8.2 and older programs may not “Crash and Burn” completely, but they are not Y2K ready and will have some potentially significant limitations. They should allow you to continue adding inventory, printing tags and making sales but any report you run where you want to specify a date range to be included will not be reliable If You Have an Older Version You Can:B) Avoid date-sensitive reports (OK if you only use only a very small part of the program) C) Download some free emergency “patches” to keep some important parts of the program workable D) Ask a database expert to create some reporting programs in Microsoft Access or Excel to create the reports you want using the data files in the \COMPLINK.JS\DATA.JS folder Potential Problem With Old Versions. After 12/31/1999 old versions of Jewelry Shopkeeper may save some records as 20th century (e.g. 1/10/1900) and other records as 21st century (e.g. 1/10/2000). Basically, any time the program presents you with a date fields already filled in, (such as a sale date) that date will be saved as a 21st century date unless you modify that date in any way. Any date which you type in or modify will be recorded as 20th century. The biggest problem with this is that when you run any report where you want to select a date range such as a sales report, you will given a beginning and ending date to type in. Since the dates you type in have only 2-digit years this date range will be for 20th century, but may of the entries in the data files are recorded as 21st century and those records will be omitted from the report Another problem is that the sales screen will complain about the date any time you change the date on the sales screen. This isn’t critical, since you can ignore the warning, but if you use security, you have to make sure all users are allowed to override the sale date. You do this from the passwords section of the program. Note that regardless of which century a record (such as an inventory record or a sale) is saved with, you should continue to be able to add inventory, print price tags and make sales where sales will deduct from the inventory list and add to the customers’ buying history. |
