Version 8.7 – Current VersionVersion 8.7 includes modifications for Y2K support. Specifically, every data entry screen which prompts you for a date has been modified to request a date with a 4-digit year. This way, there will be no ambiguity as to what date has been recorded. If You Own Version 8.7:
A) If you purchased an 8.7 update make sure you have installed it already! B) Make sure you use the Shop-Pro version of Shopkeeper, not the Standard Shopkeeper. C) Make sure that on-screen dates are prompting you for 4-digit years. If not, go to page 1 of Store Information Defaults and choose Yes for 4-digit years. If this question does not appear AND if on-screen dates have only 2-digit years, then you may, in fact, have a version prior to 8.7 D) When typing in dates for beyond 1999 make sure you actually type in all four digits of the year. I.e. don’t type 01/15/00, type in 01/15/2000 E) Note that reports and other printouts may show dates abbreviated with 2-digit years. This is normal and does not indicate a Y2K problem provided that on-screen date entries prompt you for 4-digit years. Even though the new version has Y2K support with 4-digit years, you may occasionally accidentally type dates wrong. Examples: If you type in a date such as 01/15/00 (instead of 01/15/2000) it will be recorded as 01/15/1900 ! If you are presented with a date such as 01/20/2000 but you type 00 over the first part of the year, it could end up as 01/20/0020 ! You should watch out for such mis-typing, but in case of the occasional slip-up, you can run a special “utility” called Y2KDAT which will attempt to correct the dates. You can download this utility from this web site by clicking here or looking at the Patches section of this site. |
