In 1999 Compulink releases Jewelry Shopkeeper Version 8.7 and Jewelry Shop-Pro 8.7. With your update, you will receive both Shopkeeper and Shop-Pro.

 

As you have heard, older software, including old versions of the Jewelry Shopkeep­er, will have problems after 1999 due to using 2-digit years. (This has been dubbed the Year-2000, or Y2K issue.) Don’t wait until the last minute to update your computer and software because most computer services compa­nies will be over­whelmed by then. Banks, creditors and insurance compa­nies now urge that their clients have Y2K-ready systems, as do business partners. Further­more, you want to give your staff some time to get used to entering dates with 4-digit years. The update changes all screens for 4-digit years and converts all of your old data.

If you prefer the old look, that is included too, but with all the new features. The new versions are fully compati­ble with your existing computer whether it has DOS, Win­dows 3.1, Win­dows 95, 98 or NT. Free Shop-Pro Update with Your Shopkeeper Update

     Version 8.7 comes in two flavors — you get both. Shopkeeper has the same type of menu as old versions, has all of the new features but doesn’t require more memory than old versions. Shop-Pro has a more up-to-date look and feel but needs more memory (about 8MB RAM)

     Shop-Pro has pull-down menus and mouse-support.

     Pick-lists now scroll continuously instead of a screen at a time.

     Remember that you also get the new Shopkeeper with the old interface if you prefer that, but with all the new features!

 

Year-2000 (Y2K) Support

     Y2K support has been built-in to the Jewelry Shopkeeper and Shop-Pro starting with Version 8.7. Data entry screens have been reconfigured for expanded date fields which have room for full 4-digit years. This ensures that the software does not confuse dates after 2000 with those after 1900. The update also updates all of your existing data to 4-digit years. You can disable 4-digit years, but it is suggested you use the 4-digit years on so you get used to the screens this way. You can also easily change the date format to international date styles if you need that.

 

Powerful New Sales Analyses

   (No need for the $30,000.00 GIA ARMS software!)

     Buy more quick-selling winning merchandise and less of the losers, and voilà — more profit! New features create concise reports that would have previously required several reports or that simply were unavailable.

     Advanced customer purchase analysis allows you to quickly analyze and compare purchase totals for all customers for the past four or more years. This can help quickly identify customers who previously were solid customers but who have tapered-off significantly.

     The itemized report by Sku number can now be sorted by turnover speed to find hot-sellers.

     The reorder report by style used to show all sales, now you can elect to show sales only from a particular date range so you don’t have to show sales for all years.

     The reorder report by style has the option of showing the details of each sale or just the sales totals.

     More reports have been speeded up — especially on networks.

 

Enhanced Sales Features

     You can now choose which description appears on sales receipts (e.g. the tag description, major code description, minor code description or all three!)

     You can now have the cost-code print on sales receipts.

     New Laser Side-By-Side receipts print two 5½²´8½² sales receipts or repair job tickets on a single sheet of paper with laser and inkjet printers. Perforated paper allows easy tear-off for the customer copy.

     When making a sale, the program immediately warns you of outstanding layaways for that customer.

     When looking up a layaway from a list of sales, you can now choose to list only the layaways with balances.Improved Accounting

     End-of-month accounts-receivable statements can now be printed on inkjet and laser printers using professionally pre-printed forms.

     You can now easily record payables where the invoice contains both merchandise and supplies and invoices which contain a fixed dollar discount.

     Financial reports will now not show inventory or payables dated after the report date. This is helpful if you must enter inventory and payables for the following month before closing the current month.

     The income statement now includes a column for percent of net sales for each expense account.

     A new accounts payables report can show the invoices-payable along with the details of every check applied to each payable (on a single report, not two.)

 

More Appraisal Features

     The Shop-Pro appraisal screen now offers word-processor like word-wrapping which automates reformatting when adding and deleting words and phrases.

     When adding the appraisal-detail to an inventory item, you can now copy the details from another, similar item without having to retype the whole appraisal — just the differences.

     You can now create simple appraisal templates with some standard working and you can fill in the blanks.

 

Better Repair Tracking

     Support for special laser or inkjet envelopes was added in version 8.2. Version 8.7 adds improvements to these envelopes such as printing the repair number and customer name in large type on the very top row for quicker identification.

     You can now print up to five repair jobs on a single laser printer repair envelope or repair card. The estimates and insurance values of each will be totaled.

     Repair envelopes and repair cards now print the day of the week next to the due date for quicker recognition (e.g. Monday, Tuesday, etc.)

     Each job now has a new space for unlimited notes on each job — essential for intricate jobs or if you reduce your liability by recording an exact description of items or discussions with customers.

     Standard repair jobs can now switch to the detailed custom job screen for entry of used-components and other details.

     Quick-Update allows you to rapidly update the status of many jobs in-a-row with or without barcoding.

 

Enhanced Inventory Options

     Greatly improved handling of multiple locations and more reports of inventory and sales by case or location

     You can now change the major class code of items already recorded in the inventory system using a new utility program.
