COMPANY NAME*} Type your company or store name as it is to appear on the screen and on reports. This field cannot be left blank. Below the company name, type in your company’s address and telephone number.

ENTER THE FORMAT FOR NAMES AND ADDRESSES*} If you want your customers’ mailing information to be uniformly entered in all capital letters, enter @! as the format code. If you prefer the names and addresses to be in mixed upper and lower case, leave the format code blank.

 

ARE YOU IN CANADA?*} If indicate that you are in Canada, the Jewelry Shopkeeper will prompt you for a province and postal code when entering customers’ addresses. Also, when entering invoices from vendors, Canadians will be asked for the amount of GST tax added to the invoice, which you can claim as credits when submitting your own GST.

 

ENTER THE FORMAT FOR THE TELEPHONE AREA CODE*} There are different formats for telephone numbers around the world. In the United States and Canada, this must read (999) which is the default. Other countries may have different formats, e.g. 9999/ for Germany. Do not enter your actual area-code!

 

ENTER THE FORMAT FOR THE PHONE NUMBER*} In the United States and Canada, this must be  999-9999. There must be a blank space before the first 9. In other countries, the format could be different, such as  99 99 99 for Germany.

 

ENTER THE FORMAT FOR INVENTORY DESCRIPTIONS*} This is an aide in helping you enter inventory descriptions so that they are correctly formatted for the inventory tags. An inventory description is 25 characters long and is printed on jewelry tags. Depending on the style of tag you use, the description is printed in a different format. For instance, the description printed on a small ring tag (CT311) will be divided into two lines of eight letters and one line of nine letters for a total of 25 characters. A large ring tag’s (CT312) description will be divided into three lines; the first two will be nine letters wide and the third line will be seven letters wide for a total of 25 characters. This same division is also true for the small gift tags (CT-310). The number of letters can be changed on the tags by using the Change Tag Layouts procedures on page .

 

 

If the description is typed as straight text with no consideration for these divisions, then when the tag is printed, words could be broken up. For instance, the word ‘Carat’ may look like: CARA on the first line and the T on the next line.

 

To avoid this, you can format the way you enter descriptions lines. If you are going to use the large ring or small gift tags the description pattern could look like this: @!  XXXXXXXXX  XXXXXXXX  XXXXXX. The pattern for formatting descriptions for small ring tags could look like this: @!  XXXXXXXX  XXXXXXX  XXXXXXXX. If you use different tags at different times, press <Enter> to accept the default pattern of @!. If you are familiar with Foxbase or dBase you can try some of the other formats that you may know. (such as @!R  XXXXXXXX,XXXXXXXX,XXXXXXXXX for the small ring tags or @!R  XXXXXXXXX,XXXXXXXXX,XXXXXXX for the large ring tags or small gift tags)
