Pressing any of the hidden choices executes certain important features. These features are:

D: Close all Databases. This is most useful for Jewelry Shopkeeper multi-user version users. On a network, many reports may not be run unless other users have relinquished control of the databases to be reported on. In database terminology, this is called exclusive use. For example, if you try to run an XReport while another a user is making a sale, a message like:

Another user has LOCKED a file you need. He will have return to the MAIN MENU

and press D to unlock databases in order for you to continue.

Do you want to Retry or Quit? R <Esc>=Quit

indicates that another user is using a file which you temporarily need exclusve use of. In order to continue with your report, you have to ask the other user to press D at the Main Menu.

Even if it seems that other users shouldnt be using the files you need, you should remember that Jewelry Shopkeeper doesnt relinquish control of files as soon as a users exits the feature. Since closing and opening files takes extra time (especially on slower networks), Jewelry Shopkeeper leaves those files open in anticipation of future use. For instance, if you make a sale you will notice a delay before the SALE NUMBER field appears while files are being opened. If you return to the Main Menu and make another sale, there will be no delay; Jewelry Shopkeeper kept the sales data files open.

P: Begin a Picture show. For those Jewelry Shopkeeper users who have stored photographs of their merchandise on their hard disk, Jewelry Shopkeeper will display each of the items in a continuous loop. The picture show will continue until <Esc> is pressed. The picture files must be contained in the \GIF directory. File names must have a SKU number as the file name (eg. _ _100001 for SKU number 1-00001) and the file must have the .GIF extension. (eg. \GIF\_ _100001.GIF for SKU number 1-00001; \GIF\20210100.GIF for SKU number 202-10100.)

S: Single-user mode. This option is available on multi-user versions of the Jewelry Shopkeeper. If you have the multi-user version and you are using the only active computer on the network, choose this option. Data access, reports and general use will seem quicker because Jewelry Shopkeeper wont have to perform data locks that can slow the performance of the program.

M: Multi-user mode. This option is available on only multi-user versions of the Jewelry Shopkeeper. This option returns the Jewelry Shopkeeper to multi-user mode after the Single-user mode option has been selected. Use this option when a second user is ready to begin data entry.

N: No-sale. This option pops open the cash drawer without making a sale entry. See Store Information Defaults for further explanation of cash drawer setup procedures.

R:Register the Jewelry Shopkeeper. When the Jewelry Shopkeeper reminds you to call for a registration code this option will begin the registration procedure.

: (colon):Edit a text file.

Type the file to be edited:

If you dont specify a directory, the default directory is \COMPLINK.JS\DATA.JS. Compulink technical support may ask you to use this option for certain tasks. This editor operates like most editors. Some keystroke commands useful in this file editor are: <Ctrl-W>, save the file, <Ctrl-N>, add an extra line, <Ctrl-U>, delete a line.

= (equal sign):Turn off Jewelry Shopkeeper Error-Checking. If an error occurs a message similar to the following displays:

Unknown error (#12). Do you want to Retry, Ignore, Quit or ? for messages.

Compulink customer support representatives may ask you to go back to the Main menu and press <=> and repeat the steps that produced the error to get a longer more descriptive explanation. Usually you can press the <?> when these errors occur to get a simple explanation; the simple explanation is usually sufficient to make a determination of the problem.

. (period):This option will produce a Foxbase+ dot (.) prompt. This option should be chosen only under the supervision of Compulink Customer Support.

U:This option will produce a hidden menu called the Utility Programs menu. Verify programs are maintenance programs that perform various utilities which should only be used under the supervision of Compulink Customer Support. Some of these programs include:
