Use options 1 through A to select the sales to print on the report and the report format, then choose Start Report to run the report. If you do not want to specifically choose a criterion (e.g. For Vendors) you shouldn’t choose that option. If you want to report ALL items, just choose Start Report.
Once a report has been run and all sales commissions owed have been verified, choose option C to mark sales commissions as ‘PAID’ and, optionally, to generate commissions checks.
Don’t choose any of the selections unless you specifically want to restrict the report to those items. For example, if you want to see sales for all vendors, you don’t even have to choose the For Vendors option.
For Vendors*} Use this option to restrict the selection to sales from one vendor only, or a series of vendors. To choose sales from just one vendor, enter the vendor code as both the starting and ending vendor code. If nothing is entered, ALL vendors will be reported.
For Brands*} Use this option to restrict the selection to sales from one manufacturer only, or a series of manufacturers. To choose sales from just one manufacturer, enter the manufacturer code as both the starting and ending manufacturer code. If nothing is entered, ALL manufacturers will be reported.
For Major Class Codes *} Use this option to restrict the selection to sales from one major class code only, or a range of major class codes. To choose items from just one major class code, enter the major class code as both the starting and ending major class code. If nothing is entered, ALL major class codes will be reported.
For Minor Class Codes*} Use this option to restrict the selection to sales from one minor class code only, or a range of minor class codes. To choose sales from just one minor class code, enter the minor class code as both the starting and ending minor class code. If nothing is entered, ALL minor class codes will be reported.
For Clerks*} To print or display only items for only certain clerks, choose this option and enter the clerk codes. You can specify as many clerks as desired. Typing XXX will clear all previous choices.
For Dates Sold *} Use this option to restrict the selection to items from one selling date only, or a range of selling dates. To choose items from just one selling date, enter the selling date as both the starting and ending selling date. If nothing is entered, ALL selling dates will be reported.
See note on layaways and dates below.
Report Encumbered Layaway/Special Order Items *} Select Yes to include items on layaways or special orders which have not been paid in full or picked up (in addition to cash sales), or No to prevent these items from printing on the report.
Choosing to show encumbered layaways can cause misleading results because each time a payment is received on a layaway, the date of the layaway is updated. Hence an unfinalized (open) layaway could appear on a number of different weekly or monthly reports. However, it may be useful to occasionally include layaways when viewing sales clerk activity. It is possible for a clerk to have no sales recorded for a certain time period, but if you choose to show unfinalized (open) layaways you may find that the clerk has been active in getting customers to put items on layaway.
Summary Report*} The Regular version of the report shows each item sold in detail and a subtotal for each clerk selected. The Summary version does not show each item and only shows subtotals for each clerk.
For Unpaid, Paid or Both*} If you want to report only sales that have not been marked as having the commission already paid, choose Unpaid. If you want a report of only sales for which the commission has been paid, choose Paid. Both shows all sales regardless of whether they have been marked as having had the commission ‘PAID’. To change this selection, highlight the option and press <Enter>.
Display, Print, Wide, Compressed *} The report can be displayed on the screen or printed on the printer. If the report will be printed, you can print on regular size paper or, if you have one, you could print on a wide-carriage printer which has room to print more detail. The wide report can also print the same detailed report on a standard-size printer by using small (compressed) characters. To change this selection, highlight the option and press <Enter>.
Start Report*} Choose this option to start the report according to your selections. The report will display on-screen or on paper depending on your selection above.
Do you want to re-create the commission working file? Yes No <Esc>=Quit
A commission working file is a temporary file that contains a copy of the sales selected through options 1-A. To accurately calculate commissions, Jewelry Shopkeeper creates this file each time new criteria are chosen. It’s best to answer <Y> unless you just ran the exact same report minutes ago and no sales have been added since the last time the work file was created.
Do you want to sort? Yes No <Esc>=Quit
If you choose NOT to sort in the situation where you have added or changed sales since the last time you sorted by that method, the resulting report will not be accurate.
It’s also best to answer <Y> to this question unless you just ran the exact report a few minutes ago. Next you have the option of reporting either more Financial information such as sales totals, cost of goods, final selling prices and commission total, or more Customer information such as the addresses. The financial information is used for calculating commissions, the customer information is for your clerks so they can do follow-up sales support.
Do you want to primarily report Financial information or Customer addresses?
Pay Commissions on Selected Sales*} Choose this option to mark the selected sales as having the commission ‘PAID’ and optionally to create a commission check.

Sales will display alphabetically by clerk code. At the far right of the screen, the ‘Pay?’ column prompts you to mark each sale as paid or unpaid. Type <Y> to verify that a commission is to be marked as paid, type <N> to leave the sale as unpaid. A sale will report as unpaid for one year or until you mark it as paid. Any unpaid commissions will report on the store Balance Sheet as Commissions Payable until they are marked paid.
An asterisk (*) will display beside any layaway or special order sale. Layaway and special order sales will only be included if you select to include them using option 7 from the report menu.
If you find yourself in this menu choice and you want to get out without affecting any commissions information, press <Esc> BEFORE marking any sales as ‘PAID’.
When you have completed marking sales for a clerk, the following message appears:
Do you want to Pay, begin this Clerk again or Start all over? <Esc>=Quit
If you want to re-start marking the current clerks’ sales, choose this Clerk again. If you want to re-start at the beginning of all the clerks, choose Start all over. Choose Pay only when you are confident you’ve correctly marked the clerk’s sales. Choosing Pay will yield the following screen.
The selected commissions total to: 278.55
Commission Check #: 1132 CHECKING ACCOUNT Balance: 999,999.99
The next check number is displayed for you approval. You may change the check number by typing in a number over the default.
Pressing <Enter> will yield the following question. If a check is to be issued to the clerk for the calculated commissions, choose <Y>. If you merely want to mark the sales as paid to reduce your Commissions Liability, choose <N>. (for example, if you have already paid the commission by check or cash, you wouldn’t want to update the bank balance again.)
The selected commissions total to: 278.55
Do you need to update the bank balance and check number? Yes No <Esc>=Quit
If a check is issued, you will be asked to confirm the check number.
Confirm Check no: 1132? Yes No <Esc>=Quit
A check will be created if you confirm this question. The check will be written on the bank account chosen in Sales Clerk Maintenance. The Expense code the check is expensed against is also set up in Sales Clerk Maintenance. For more information refer to Sales Clerk Maintenance, page .
Once all clerks sales have been selected, the following message will display as the sales are updated from the work file.
Recording Commissions As Paid. Please Wait ...
When the updating has finished, the report menu will re-appear. You can return to step 6b to run another report, or press <0> to return to the previous menu.
