XCharge PAD-SS update instructions

Top  Previous  Next

All Credit card processors require that point of sale software

be updated to meet the new security requirements

Here are instructions for updating X-Charge to the Secure version:

Verify that all stations have VJS version 1.40 or higher.

From the VJS File Center you can see the current version number

at the top right corner and if needed you can update by choosing

"More" then "Update VJs Software."

When that's done schedule a time to update to X-Charge version 7.1.1

(See below for download links for X-Charge)

We suggest this be done first thing one morning. (I.e. after the

previous day has been batched out but before new charges for the current

day have been entered.)

You shouldn't need to re-enter the X-Charge configuration however, it's best

to verify that you have all the configuration information available for X-Charge:

account numbers, passwords, etc.

First update X-Charge on the server.

The Main X-Charge installer is typically called XC7.1.1.exe and is about 23MB

The X-Charge server is the one which has the small X-Charge icon at the bottom right

corner of the Windows desktop (the 'system tray') This can be - but doesn't

have to be - the same as your main fileserver where Shopkeeper data is installed.

Before you update the server, stop the X-Charge server program by right-clicking

right-clicking the X-Charge icon in the system tray (near the Windows clock) then

choosing Exit

After the server is up and running you might want to run a test charge

using the X-Charge program directly on the server from the Windows Desktop.

Once the X-Charge server is updated, then all the workstations have to have X-Charge 7.1.1 installed.

You don't have to uninstall the previous version of X-Charge 6.2 before installing 7.1.1.

When you install X-Charge on the workstations you use the same XCCLIENT7.1.1.EXE program but

you will have to select the CLIENT option (not the Server option ) Somewhere you'll need to

configure the clients (workstations) to talk to the server version of X-Charge on the correct

IP address. If this needs to be changed, see the instructions below on making the workstations

communicate with the server on the correct IP address.

In addition to the full X-Charge program, the stations need to have a second, smaller

installation of the X-Charge DLL component.

The DLL component is typically called XCCLIENT7.1.1.EXE and is about 10MB.

Verify that you can run a charge from a POS station using the X-charge standalone program

from the Windows Desktop.

In VJS, go to Maintenance, Preferences, Payment Options, Credit Card Defaults, then in

the box Credit Card Authorization Type change the X to  XCSECURE1

If you have a name and password for the X-Charge program you can enter that too.

Note that this isn't a user-id and password to connect to the X-Charge system

for authorization, it's the name and password to access the X-Charge program.

These are configured using the X-Charge Server program on the X-Charge server computer.

If different people have different X-Charge User ID's or if you have no X-Charge

User ID's then you can leave this blank. The default name and password are both "system."

If X-Charge on a workstation cannot 'see' the X-Charge server you may see this message

followed by this message:

In this case, first verify that the server is running.

If it is, then choose Edit Connection Settings and

verify that the IP Address is correct. The IP address needs to

match the IP Address of the X-Charge server.

Then click on Test. If it's correct you'll get a success message.

You can verify the correct IP Address in the X-Charge server program.

On the X-Charge server computer, right-click the X-Charge icon in the

system tray (near the Windows clock) then choose Open X-Charge Server

Then choose Setup (you may need an X-Charge name and password), General Options,

Server, and check the Local IP Address.
