Jewelry Shopkeeper 9.8 Update
The more sales, inventory, repair and customer data you
have in Jewelry Shopkeeper the more you need the latest Shopkeeper tools for
analyzing profitability, optimizing buying, enhancing your marketing and improving
customer service.
David Geller’s JewelerProfit business consulting makes
extensive use of the powerful options that Compulink has added in recent
versions. Here is just a small selection of the dozens of recent improvements.
Version
9.8 for 2006 Adds:
- More advanced inventory and sales analysis
with two new Return on Investment (GMROI) analyses: By Price-Point Within
Vendor and By Price-Point Within Major Class Code. With fewer reports than
before Shopkeeper will let you more precisely identify the problem areas
and the profit-centers.
All
of the GMROI reports (by Major Code, Minor Code, Vendor, Brand,
Price-Point and the new ones above) now have an option to filter the
report by minor code. E.g. you could exclude certain items from the report
in case they don’t belong in what you’re trying to analyze – e.g. you
might exclude some consignment merchandise.
- Most reports now let you select vendors,
brands, major and minor code with a pick list.
- The hour-by-hour and daily sales activity
report used to only show the number of transactions per hour. It now has
an option to show dollars per hour.
- When you run the Accounts Payable Cash
Requirements report and select a due-date range, those payables with a
blank due due-date are now included. I.e. they’re either due now or you
should identify them and put in the correct due date.
- The itemized sales report now allows you to
see all the sales of a selected individual vendor style number. Also the
itemized inventory report also lets you see all the Sku numbers for a
single vendor style.
- The itemized inventory report (when sorted by
vendor) now includes a column with the invoice / memo number.
- The sales report by customer now allows you
to select a single customer. (This is different than running a full customer
history for one customer in that you can select to see just a certain date
range or the sales from a particular vendor or major code range.) You can
also select a range of customer numbers here. That can help you select
just the newly added customers – skipping customers who were added a long
time ago (even if they had recent sales.)
- The commission report now splits the value in
the discount column when an item has two salesmen.
- More Excel Export options allow you to do
more specialized data analyses, mailings and web-site integrations.
- The new Loose Stones export option can allow
you to post all or part of your loose stones inventory on a web site.
- The Commissions Export file includes further
information including Customer name, address, phone, email, birthdays and
anniversaries. This helps with follow-up campaigns by salesperson.
- The Sales Report includes columns for the
vendor name, address and email. This can help follow-ups for reorders and
with the settlement of memo sales.
- The inventory and picture export feature now
includes the information from the 17-line extended notes screen. This
provides more details for your customers if you use this export as part of
your website.
- The barcode tag layout screens now allow you
to select a different barcode printer for different tag layouts. That
helps if you have two tag printers connected at different computers.
Previously it was assumed that only one tag printer was installed.
- You can now make the font of the Sku number
different from that of the description.
- Customer searches by phone number adds
Cell-Phone so searches will now simultaneous search by Home, Work and
Mobile which helps speed-up transactions when you’re not certain which
number you’re given or if you’re specifically given the mobile phone
number.
- The 3-part repair card / envelope now has an
option to make one of the three parts quite plain, omitting the customer
full name and address and the due date and the estimated charges. This
option will be very useful for jobs you subcontract and where you don’t
want to give the subcontractor all that information. Of course, your
remaining two in-house stubs will have all the customer and job
information.
- The section of the customer mailing list
screen which allows you to select customers based on purchases has been
redesigned to make it much easier to navigate (e.g. to make it easier for
you to select Diamond Ring customers from last year). In addition you can
now filter customers based on the number of sales they’ve had. E.g. you
could select customers who have made just one purchase or 10 –
independently of the number of dollars they’ve spent. In addition the
customer purchase report now totals the number of customer purchase
visits. That way you can estimate the average purchase total for all of
your customers.
- When inventory prices or costs are altered
from the Edit Inventory screen a tracking note is automatically added to
the history of that Sku number.
- If you use the integrated credit card authorization
option of Shopkeeper and print receipts using a 40-column printer you can
now select to print extra receipt copies only when a credit card was
accepted as payment.
- When you choose to select and pay
invoices-payable for multiple vendors it is now much easier to navigate
both forward and backward in the list when you have several pages to
review.
- A new Auto Clipboard feature will
automatically copy information from various Shopkeeper screens to the
Windows clipboard so you could then paste them in an e-mail, or a word
processor. This is available for extended customer notes, extended repair
notes and extended inventory notes. Even if the extended customer notes
are multiple pages long they are all sent to the clipboard.
